How setups are compared

Each saved calculation is a snapshot of one tire-and-gear combination. The comparison table lines those snapshots up side-by-side so you can weigh the trade-offs of each setup on the same metrics: highway RPM, crawl ratio, speedometer error, and the drivability score produced by the calculator. The same standard formula — RPM = (MPH × Ratio × 336) / Tire Diameter— drives every row, so the numbers are directly comparable across vehicles of different axle ratios and tire diameters.

A useful comparison usually pits a factory setup against one or two modified setups. Look for the combination that keeps highway RPM inside a comfortable band (roughly 2,000–2,600 RPM for gas engines at 65 mph) while still delivering enough crawl ratio for your terrain. The drivability score summarizes how far each setup drifts from the calculator's ideal match for your driving style.

Highway commuter

3.21 ratio · 32" tires

~2,184 RPM at 65 mph. Lowest cruise RPM and best fuel economy — ideal for mostly-pavement driving with light loads.

Mixed-use upgrade

4.10 ratio · 35" tires

~2,560 RPM at 65 mph. Restores near-factory RPM after a moderate tire bump — the most common all-around regear.

Crawler / heavy tow

4.88 ratio · 37" tires

~2,723 RPM at 65 mph. Highest cruise RPM but the strongest crawl ratio — best for rock crawling or frequent heavy towing.
